If you have wondered where Phuket wants its next wave of visitors - and investment - to come from, Singapore just moved up the list. Talks at Provincial Hall this week were not about chasing volume; they were about higher-spending visitors, wellness travel and learning from a city that runs tight.
Phuket Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom welcomed Singapore Ambassador Catherine Wong Siow Ping and her delegation on Nov 5 for an introductory meeting on tourism, trade and investment at provincial level. Singapore officials included First Secretary (Political) Joel Chek, alongside Phuket commerce, tourism and culture representatives.

The practical links are already there: the Phuket-Singapore route is served by an estimated five to eight direct flights a day. Both sides discussed building on that to draw more quality visitors, and adding maritime and cruise options between the two destinations.

Wellness and medical tourism got particular attention. Phuket is pitching itself as an international health and wellness destination and inviting Singaporean investors to look at sectors the Governor described as having strong growth potential.
There was also a learning angle: the Governor pointed to Singapore experience in urban management and running dense areas, and outlined Phuket emergency response and disaster preparedness following recent flooding and landslides, with tourism safety part of the conversation.
